About

rcx coconut and rapeseed wax blend

What wax do we use?

We use coconut & rapeseed wax which burns without releasing any carcinogens! carcinogens cause cancer! Our wax is blended in Europe and made from rapeseed oil, coconut oil and nothing else.

What’s the competition and how did we decide?

Paraffin wax candles (which we will never make) often create a significant amount of soot that collects on the jar, on your walls and on other surfaces of the home including inside your lungs. Paraffin wax is a by-product of the oil industry and features heavily in high street brands due to its cheap and easy availability. Parrafin when burnt releases known carcinogens such as benzene, toluene, chlorobenzene, and ethylbenzene; carcinogens increase your risk of developing cancer.

Soy wax is more eco-friendly than paraffin wax and often the first choice for many brands looking to be better for the environment. However, soy wax is made from soybean oil, and unfortunately, the soybean industry is known for its deforestation and use of pesticides. (It’s worth bearing in mind that many soy wax blends that contain at least 51% of soy wax are usually labelled as such, when in fact they could well have 49% paraffin wax!)

Pure coconut wax comes from harvesting coconut oil and then hydrogenating it. Coconuts are a sustainable high-yield crop.

Pure rapeseed wax comes from the oil of rapeseed, a commonly grown crop.

We’ve opted for a blend of coconut & rapeseed wax. Why? Coconut wax in its pure form is very soft, so the rapeseed gives it a little more firmness. We love the benefits of coconut wax being a luxurious but eco-friendly natural ingredient giving a slow burn (check out our long burn times!). And partnering that with the qualities of rapeseed wax which holds and throws scent so well, not to mention being locally sourced from the EU, we feel we have a winning formula!

What wicks do we use?

Our wicks are 100% cotton; lead-free, non-toxic, paraffin-free, and no zinc or other metals.

Our wax’s burn time

Coconut & rapeseed wax burn much longer than the alternatives. Our wax has a slower burning time and a cooler burning temperature, which is why the burn time of our candles seems too good to be true!

Scent throw & colours

Our coconut and rapeseed wax holds colours and fragrances very well, it also has an amazing scent throw. the scent throw is the strength of fragrance that the candle releases into the air.

Where are our candles and wax melts made?

We hand pour all of our candles and wax melts in Essex UK.
